230

I’ve made it to 230!! I’ve made my next “superficial gift to self” markers…

But we’re moving and I just got finished with a huge party weekend (and definitely non-paleo weekend) from my bff’s wedding. So I gotta wait for another week or so for my special new fancy hair cut. Plus I’m soooo tempted to get it a little shorter this time.

But its steadily going down (my weight) and I’m looking forward to a level of “comfort” for summer beachtime.

for the record, comfort does not equal “bikini body ready.” I just want to feel good about myself and ready to bare my stomach, despite my insecurities….

I haven’t posted in quite a while. Some little one erased my tumblr app and I never got around to re-downloading it. Then some little one ruined my computer charger and I had to wait a few weeks before visiting the APPLE store to buy a new one.

Short story long, I’m down to 235. And I’m loving the effect paleo has on my body.

And I ran a half marathon.

WHAT?!? That’s right. My sister sprung a visit on me and I had less than two months to prepare. And I did it. It was last weekend and it kicked my butt. My time was pretty slow but I did a pretty good pace for most of it. About mile 10 is when I slowed down and consequently, there were hills on the course.

I wanted to keep y’all in check and remember to post more about this journey. I have been off the paleo wagon for two weeks while prepping for this run but I’m starting again. I’m having the sleepy feeling and desperate for a snack feeling again. But I’m also feeling my pants loose again and eager to eat some of my favorite concoctions.

Let her eat cake!

I had some leftover Bailey’s from my annual holiday party and wanted to make something with it. My husband and I aren’t major alcohol drinkers (my college self would be lolling now) so I wanted to do something with it. I decided to make a cake. Guiness dark chocolate with Bailey’s buttercream. Sounds Amazing, Eh?! Well, I didn’t check the recipe or my bottle of Baileys. The recipe required 3 tablespoons of Baileys. I had a whole bottle! I ended up buying guiness and now have MORE liquor.

Anyway, I made this AMAZING cake. I got a beautiful cake display for Xmas and wanted to use it. And it tasted…heavenly. Obviously not on my bastardized paleo adventure, which I’m sad to admit I felt stupidly guilty for.

After consuming this amazing cake I busted my butt to make before dinner ended (I made it on a weekend, the only days a week I work) I ate it and immediately felt thirsty, weak, and headachey.

Lo and behold I’ve developed quite a sugar sensitivity. After google diagnosing myself I’ve found my body is no longer happy with that much sugar shocking its system. After sharing a bit with my husband and my kids I eventually threw a THIRD of the cake away! I know! A horrible shame. But I knew I’d want to eat it and it made me feel sick.

At least this new knowledge of my body has helped me avoid sugary items since and will continue to help avoid other sugary items in the future.

—no photos because I was rushing and it was the ugliest effing cake..but delish.

holymaurymotherofgod:

This is a reblog from a great Maury gif blog but I had to share this story. As a young overweight/chubby kid (depending on the age/stage) I would watch these RIDICULOUS episodes with hope in my heart. I know now how misguided that hope was. The geek to chic episodes showed cripplingly insecure people with loads of plastic surgery and miserably attempting to get happiness out of a tv show.
I particularly remember watching Jenny Jones and seeing these skinny women with big fake boobs and the audience, of course, had something to say about that. How depressingly silly of me! I knew not that the source of my happiness would never be located by watching these examples.
Kinda wanna give my child self a hug.

Today I made something new! and outside my comfort zone. I’m so wary of eggs and various ways of cooking them. They’re right on the border of my “blech” state. Everytime my poor husband makes eggs for me I can’t eat them. Very, very picky. Its notoriously “me.”  One of my earliest posts I mentioned my “issue” with hard boiled eggs .
Anyway, I saw this meal posted on smitten kitchen a while back and I was intrigued. A new way to prepare veggies and eggs?! With Cumin?! I’m there!  But I didn’t want the cheese part and months, after forgetting about it, saw it posted on pinterest.
So here it is! Shakshuka! An isreali dish! And apparently many other areas make a version (“eggs in purgatory” in Italy).   At first the eggs squicked me out but eventually reminded me of my dad’s special lasagna (which he rarely makes and, in fact, made this Holiday season).
In other news, yes, thats my fancy, beautiful new Le Creuset dutch oven.

Dear Self

MyFitnessPal misses you. It knows you’re avoiding it. And its feelings are hurt.

If you were willing to be a partner in this relationship you need to learn to communicate [with MyFitnessPal].

I’m sorry MFP. I’ll rededicate myself to be a better partner.

I should note…

I made 238 before Xmas.

I’m not back down to that number yet. Probably closer to 241.

I was really digging on my bastardized version of Paleo. I am behind the whole “no dairy” thing pretty whole heartedly. I was dropping lbs and it felt good. The only problem was coming up with meals for the kids but it was happening.

I went home for Xmas and initially thought “I will avoid grains/sugars/dairies but I won’t obsess.” It probably took me a day to just throw it to the wind. I did have some great salads with turkey and cranberry relish. I had some other paleo friendly moments. But I also ate my mom’s special cookies nonstop. Actually had fancy beers (!!!). And pretty much accepted every single food/treat/drink offered to me.

On our way home I had trouble keeping up with my husband at the airport because my (freshly dried) jeans kept falling off. A week later, Xmas morning, my pants weren’t covering my butt once again. But this time because they were too tight.

I did keep one promise though. I refused to feel bad or guilty about these choices. And I enjoyed all of the decadence.

Now I’m attempting to get back on the wagon. Returning to my workouts. Returning to my happy food choices.
